The Minister of Universities , Business and Research , José Ballesta , today visited the company facilities Camposeven is in the municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar , for the latest collaborative projects in research , development and innovation launched between company and the Center for Bioethics and Plant Genomics at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
This is an initiative that has had the collaboration of the Ministry of Universities , Business and Research , through the Directorate General of Universities and Scientific Policy and the financial support of the Institute for the Promotion of the Region of Murcia, through help 110,000 euros for the development of studies and tests that improve the quality of the plants and the implementation of new technologies compatible with organic farming.
One of the studies has identified viruses , fungi and insects that cause further damage to plants and therefore economic performance of crops. For this, we have applied tools for R & D & I in the greenhouses of the company , which allowed replacing chemical pesticides and biological methods and combat the insect that transmits the virus. Also , investigations are aimed at developing new product varieties that are immune to these diseases.
With regard to the application of new technologies to the cultivation process , the company Camposeven notable for having been the first in the region to apply on their plantations hydroponics , among other advances , which have enabled it to double its production .
" This company has understood that research and development is not an expense but an investment ," said Minister José Ballesta , adding that " they have also opted for internationalization as a tool to improve their competitiveness and have added to its strategy organic food production , which have become a niche market for our food system pioneer . "
